Ms. Griffith - Director

 

Ms. Griffith began teaching at Darby when the school opened in 1997.  She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and a Master of Education from Ohio University.  She has studied acting in Los Angeles, Cincinnati and New York.  After graduating from college Gail completed a ten month internship at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park before moving to New York City.  In New York she waited tables and took acting classes just like all of the other thousands of actors.  She returned to Columbus and worked with Reality Theatre before starting her own company which was in existence for two years.  Gail then became a founding member of Shadowbox Cabaret and worked as the Managing Director, actress, director and acting coach for six years before coming to Darby to establish the theatre department.

 

 

 

Mr. Kruder - Technical Director

Mr. Kruder began teaching at Darby at the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year. He is a graduate of Bowling Green University with a degree in Telecommunications. His acting credits include Damn Yankees, Oklahoma, Once Upon A Mattress, and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. He also acted in a nationally televised commercial for Bowling Green University. Despite this Mr. Kruder's first love is Technical Theatre (or anything that makes noise and/or lights up). In college he directed a weekly music video show and the Bowling Green Coach's show which aired regionally on Fox Sports. He was also the sound board operator for The Palace Theatre in Marion, Ohio. He is a former DJ and owned his own record label. Mr. Kruder's first play at Darby was California Suite.

 

Mr. Chute - Assistant Director

Mr. Chute is a 1992 graduate of Hilliard High School. While there, he acted in M*A*S*H, Anything Goes and The Wizard of Oz. He graduated from Miami University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. At Miami, he co-founded "Stage Left", a theatre group for non-theatre majors, which still exists today. Stage Left produced The Nerd and Crimes of the Heart.  Chute served as props master and on tech crew for both shows. Mr. Chute has been at Darby since it opened in the fall of 1997. The first play he directed at Darby was The Sea Horse in 1998. Other credits include I Never Sang For My Father, Inherit The Wind (co-directed with Griffith) and Hansel & Gretel. He received a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College in 2001 and National Board Certification in 2004. He currently teaches Math and AP Physics.
